External reporting: a reported name match

The archive contributor reports that the name on the unredacted cheque image matches Mounzer Kheder, whom SBS also identifies as “Monza Coder”. This reported match has not been independently verified by this archive. The public image retains its privacy redactions.

In its investigation published 9 September 2019, SBS reported that a displaced Syrian family paid $9,570 for promised Australian immigration assistance. SBS reported that Kheder admitted receiving money but denied wrongdoing; the Australian Labor Party confirmed that he had never been a Labor MP.

Limits: The article does not establish ownership of the email address discussed by the contributor, a connection to this cheque, or a criminal conviction. A matching name alone does not identify the writer or recipient, authenticate the instrument, establish that $500,000 changed hands, or connect the reported visa payments to this faction.
